This was a typography level one assignment. The goal was to create a magazine layout from an article of our choice.
I took the assignment as an opportunity to visually test an idea I had been sitting on. Amazon Prime Sustainable.
The article I chose was a New York Times profile of Stewart Brand. The Man Who Changed the World, Twice by David Brooks. In addition to the magazine layout (typography) I was trying to capture a style and color palette that would provoke a conversation. Something from Amazon that was familiar while incorporating something new. Color, assets, business development.
For me the assignment was a personal study on feedback and trying different mediums. Class recommendations included consistency font style with brand (no cursive for Bezos), page layout (page two missed it), being aware of type leading and not breaking words (right side of paragraph columns), and keeping an image and asset source document (I added that).
Kate, my class instructor, also recommend moodboards as a reference guide.
I’ll make a new moodboard and modify the original design with class feedback, and image source document, and upload it.
